I really liked my doctor and just wanted to talk with her about how I could remedy this situation in the future. I also wanted to talk with her so that her opinion of me was not tainted by their cruel office staff (my doctor was so excited that I was getting married even wanted me to bring in photos for my next visit. She is a great person and I was worried about how she would view me after this.). Because the office staff did not let me set up an appointment I am unfortunately switching doctors. I just don't feel right going to a doctors office where the front staff, someone who, sadly, chose a career to help people, can make a patient, who is in obvious distress, feel so horrible.
I am normally a very understanding person but when you are crying on the phone because you are so upset about your situation and the person you are talking to is telling you that it is all your fault, probing to get personal information about why you want to see your doctor, and giving you incorrect advice about your medication... There is just somethings that a patient should never have to go though because their doctors office staff is cruel.
I always thought that the office staff at St. Mary's was a little aloof but never realized how bad until I needed a prescription refilled and I had very limited availability to pick it up. The first time I tried I told the office I would be there tomorrow. When I arrived the office was closed. I was a little upset that they did not warn me but understood because, their office closes at 12 on Friday. (Still a warning as to that fact would have been nice!)
Unfortunately, I had to leave town for work but I called the answering service who told me a doctor would be on the phone with me within the hour to work something out. I waited 3 days then finally called the office. They told me that my fiance could come and pick up the prescription. I told them that he was coming up to see me on Friday and would stop by before then to get it. When I inquired about mailing the prescription instead they told me that mailing it would take longer and might not make it by Friday.
On Friday he left work early so that he could pick it up. When he arrived their was a sign in the door stating that the office closed early. My fiance never received a phone call informing him to the change in schedule. He shook the door to check and make sure it was locked and knocked on it. Certain that there was no one inside he left and called me to alert me of the situation. I called the office and only got a busy signal (all three numbers). So I called the Birch Run office. They were very nice and were able to call Frankenmuth and get though. They told me that there was someone in the office working the phones... why that person could not have answered the door is beyond me! I called the Frankenmuth office only to be told that my being unable to get my prescription was all my fault and there was nothing that she could do for me. I requested that she overnight my prescription to me. (I thought this was the least the office could do after being closed twice without any warning.) She told me that the office does not do that for their patients. That she could mail it with a stamp to me (what they told me not to do earlier that week). I was very upset at this point and requested an appointment with my doctor. She asked me why I would need an appointment... I told her that I was hoping to talk with my doctor about my prescription. She asked why? (uummmm shouldn't that be enough information? I should not have to share my appointment details with the front desk staff, should I? ) She then told me what my doctor could or could not do with my prescription. (How does a secretary have ANY right to tell me what my doctor can and can not do?) Also, I have worked with other doctors before what what she was telling me was a lie. But what can you expect from a front desk staff member who was playing pharmacist.
